The chronicles of Darren Hupke and his creative outputs
I don’t use Tumblr often… Josh Fialkov made me use it.
Dammit, I just spent an hour with this groove in my head, so I started to play around with it. I decided I was going to give it a rest and come back to it later when I suddenly realized… This sounds A LOT like ‘In Threes’ by Since By Man, doesn’t it? Plagiarism? Listen to it, the first bit is the intro to the SBM song, after that, it’s the unfinished bit I was noodling around with.
It was a total accident. I will chalk it up as a subliminal nod to my love for the band, I guess. Either way, this going to be totally reworked or trashed. Or I’ll change the tempo/sound and do some digital/distorted cover. Time to zone out on some TV.
Hi, I just wanted to share some thanks for all the support so far, you guys are awesome! This isn’t the end, though. The $500 bar was just a small goal for the page. My real goal is the amount backers. The $500’s is fantastic and that will let me pay Vince for his work, but the whole purpose of this page was to get copies of the comic out to as many people as I possibly could. The comic is a short, and at $1-$5, I’d love to see a thousand people get a copy. What I want to see is the backer count continue to rise. We will produce as many copies as humanly possible, every one hand crafted and personalized. How awesome (and a bit scary) will it be to write a thousand different names and paint and sew a thousand different copies? Sharing a story I CREATED! I want to do this and your support by spreading the word helps! Thanks for all the early buzz, Kickstarter! In the first 3 days we were on the front page, listed as a staff pick and featured under the ‘popular' sections of the site. I am glad people find this story interesting. Thanks again and tell your friends!
Jean-Paul Deshong is currently breaking down the comic and getting ready to go into full production mode. Can’t wait to see it!
I also have the short in the Small Batch Comics anthology, Batch #1, coming later this year. Be sure to check out their page here:
Finally, I am going to have a short comic in another anthology next year, I just got the email last week letting me know I am in. Here is a bit from the email:
Well that was rough.
If you are getting this e-mail it means your story has been accepted for the second science fiction volume of the Gathering due for print in July 2013. Well done to everyone here as there was a lot of people that submitted to this volume. Those that follow the company will be aware I also edited the first sci-fi volume and I believe this volume had double the pitches of that one. I read them as they came in and filtered them through. I tried to make my task of choosing a final group of writers easier but even my ‘short list’ was quite significant so you all should be very proud. You beat out some very stiff competition.
Enough with the boring rules (we’ll worry about art deadlines and stuff later, writing these things comes first) don’t forget to feel proud. You guys seriously beat out many strong candidates and I think we’re really going to raise the bar with this one.
So that’s great, right?
